The Centralia Virtual Academy (CVA)
An Online Learning Opportunity - grades 7 through 12
The Centralia School District (CSD) recognizes the diverse needs and preferences of families for our district boundary students in grades 7 through 12. The CSD has in place a comprehensive online virtual program (Centralia Virtual Academy or CVA) that can be tailored specifically to a student’s academic needs. This innovative initiative aims to provide students with a flexible and dynamic educational experience while maintaining the rigor and quality of traditional schooling. By offering both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (high school only) platforms for learning, the Centralia School District is ensuring that its students have the opportunity to thrive academically, and this includes all 7th -12th grade students within our district boundary. In the CVA, students can enroll in one or more courses, including full-day, based upon their academic needs and/or graduation needs.
Synchronous
Middle and high school aged students will be able to enroll in a synchronous setting where they zoom in each day at a particular time according to a bell schedule; either part-time or full-time. A student would be part of a class period with other students in the district receiving instruction in a subject area like English, math, art, science, or history as examples; all in an online virtual setting.
The synchronous component of the CVA enables students to engage in real-time interactive sessions with certified teachers and fellow classmates. Through video conferencing and virtual classrooms, students can actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and receive immediate feedback; mirroring the traditional classroom experience. This synchronous platform fosters collaboration, critical thinking, and social interaction, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education.
Asynchronous - high school credit retrieval only
In addition to the synchronous platform, the CVA also provides an asynchronous learning environment. With this option a student would choose a subject(s) and complete the work using our APEX Learning System where a teacher would be available through email, Zoom, and/or phone during an agreed upon time to connect. This allows students to access the APEX Learning platform, a teacher, educational resources, and assignments at their convenience. The flexibility of asynchronous learning enables students to tailor their schedules, accommodating personal commitments, and any other interests. It encourages independent learning, self-discipline, and time-management skills, which are essential for success in higher education and beyond and would allow a student to accelerate their learning by working at a faster pace to complete the course, or courses. These APEX courses can be taken in conjunction with synchronous CVA classes working around schedules.

By offering both synchronous and asynchronous platforms for traditional or accelerated learning, the Centralia Virtual Academy (CVA) provides a well-rounded educational experience for students in grades 7 through 12. This program not only offers flexibility and personalized learning but also ensures that students have access to qualified educators, peer interaction, and a comprehensive curriculum.
